I am thinking of purchasing some sort of cutting system, by that I mean Sizzix Big Shot or Slice, or Cuttlebug etc ... I was wondering if anyone has any?? What are they like?? Would you recommend anything in particular? Or any other advice??

Thanks ladies!!!

Im intrigued by them too Chloe. I have used a sizzix before and enjoyed it. I know that the sizzix can use a few different brands of diecuts. I have never got to use a cuttlebug but alot of people love them. I think they have a huge range of diecuts.

Does anyone know what the prices range from?

I bought one system from Big W a few years ago, I dont know what it was, but I threw it out after the first few uses as it used dies but didn't cut very evenly. When i first saw them they were about $80, so when I saw them down to $20, I grabbed one, but I later realised why they were so cheap. It was like a wheel that you had to rock and the die would go through, I don't know if i couldn't get the action correct but i just got so frustrated with it that I threw it out.
I did see at another store last week that they have their own system. For store members, the base unit was $80, not sure what it was to people not in the club, but it is free to join. i didn't see the cost of the cartridges/dies (not sure what they use).
Personally, i love my cricut. Although the upfront cost can put people off, the cartridges are very versatile and so you could end up purchasing over 100 dies to do the same as one cartridge. It can also cut the same design in a varety of sizes. My only regret is that I let the staff member talk me into purchasing the cheaper and smaller original, rather than the 12inch system. Maybe one day I'll upgrade (when I win lottery)!

I have a cuttlebug and it works fantastically. Thus far I have used a variety of cuttlebug, cuttlekids and sizzix dies including big and sizzlits in it. They all work really well. I bought mine originally for embossing but have slowly accumulated some cutting dies. If I had the money and wanted to do more die cuts I'd possibly get the cricut as I love the fact that you can cut different sizes of the same thing. I don't think there is a great deal of difference between the way the cuttlebug and sizzix machines work so availability and price might be the decider. I have had trouble getting spellbinders embossing to work well in the cuttlebug so am wary of buying their cutting dies for it. Hope that helps!

I was very lucky to have been given a Cuttlebug and Cricut by a very special group of scrap friends from my previous forum.

I love them both, so many possibilities and have found now that the Cricut cartridges have reduced in price too, so a tiny bit more affordable.

I would like to have a go at the MM Slice and the new Gypsy too. Smile
